this is not an ordinary rooster. This is a bird pretty rare in America, a Jungle Fowl. But indeed, you're not far from the truth, this is the wild ancestor of our domesticated chicken - the outer look didn't change very much.
Many years ago a hobby ornitologist released them on the island of Little Tobago.
