Oystercatchers

The Pied Oystercatcher can be found on sandy beaches all along the Australian shoreline. But in fact, I found the Sooty Oystercatcher much more often.

Much more often I observed the Sooty Oystercatcher searching the beaches for edible content. Contrary to their name, oystercatchers are not specificly after oyster. They prefer mussels, but on some places I think they were hunting for little crabs. But normally it was just one bird within eyesight.

The only time I saw several Oystercatchers at one place. Nearby, there were 2 or so more birds. So I suppose, this might be a family I photographed near Fishers Point in Tasmania.
