Galapagos was one of the main reasons for me to do the Pacific crossing in 1997. To all of us it was surprising to see how islands so similar as the Galapagos are can make such different impressions. This is the island of Bartholomé, a very small one, but the most famous site.

In the background one sees huge rain clouds. For March/April, when we were there, we had a pretty unusual weather, the first sign of "el niño". "El niño" is a frequent weather- and ocean-phenomenon which suppesses the cold currents in the ocean. So the sealife dies or disappears - a hard time for the populations of men and animals.
