Decorated stern of the Russian "Standard" Another rare sight and I can't even say for sure, how to call this type of vessel. Probably this Russian built replica of Peter the Great's flag ship, the "Shtandard", is what Germans call a line ship, but I will follow supplied instructions.
The ship is covered with rich decorations, even if the details seem to be a bit simple when taking a closer look. Today all oldfashioned sailing vessel are expected to look immaculate and nobel. But: 'til the day being nobody managed to persuade me this was the original style. Indeed the ships were tools for work and making money, not for representation. And skilled wood carvings are expensive as they ever were.
So I think, the "Shtandard" gives a quite original impression and I made a couple of pictures of her.
