A couple of years ago horrible news came from the Great Barrier Reef. A large starfish, the Crown of Thorns, suddenly spread like an explosion. And these starfish were eating the coral, leaving a trail of death behind. Some people were really concerned the whole reef would die. It did not, and as far as I know the reasons for the sudden increase remained as mysterious as the reason for the decrease some years later. Maybe it was only a frequent phenomenon not observed before. Anyway I doubt nature itself could provide bigger dangers than human beings currently do with all the air and water pollution.
