Such are the pictures one constantly comes across when travelling the Top end: impressive pictures of a remarkable animal, the frilled lizard. But our tour guide and the information in Territory Wildlife Park swept away the hope to see or photograph one myself. They said these lizards were very shy and hiding from tourists.

So imagine how glad I was on my very last Australia day when I went for a short walk without the group to the Darwin Botanical gardens and I saw a skinny unmistakable figure running the lawns. But when spotting me from far, it turned around and ran back to it's tree again. Anyway, I was so happy I instantly named it "Frilly" and went to the tree to get a closer picture.
