Wallum Banksia

Wallum Banksia, Banksia aemula

The Wallum Banksia (Banksia aemula) looks pretty much like the closely related Saw Banksia. The most visible difference is color of it's inflorescences which is rather yellowish than greenish.

The word Wallum describes a special type of ecosystem that is especially exposed to bush fires. Therefore, these Banksias regrow easily from their lignotubers protected underground.

Pretty often, the Wallum Banksia grows in mixed groups with the Saw Banksia, so sometimes, the difference is difficult to tell.
