Pencil Pine

Pencil Pine, Athrotaxis cupressoides

The Pencil Pine (Athrotaxis cupressoides) is a pretty unmistakable tree found in Tasmania. But like often, it has nothing to do with pines, it's a cypress.

But like many other Australian and Tasmanian species, it's threatend for several reasons. It's affected by bushfires, by Phytophthora fungi and introduced animals. So I did not manage to see it in total wilderness, the picture was done in the visitors area of Cradle Mountain NP.
